It falls under Tiruchengode sub-district and Komarapalayam Legislative Constituency and Erode Parliamentary Constituency. The panchayat was constituted in the year 1963, and it was upgraded to Third Grade Municipality on October 7, 2004.. It has a population of 35,635 (2001 census) and an extent area of 4.70km2. The town is divided into 21 wards. Pallipalayam is the birth place of the mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan.
