Not illustrated. 1863 Excerpt: ...by charitable contributions out of his own property, "let him do it as of the ability which God giveth," and let him take care that his ministrations and services be N done to the honour and glory of God from whom we have all our blessings temporal and spiritual through Jesus Christ, to whom be praise and dominion for ever and ever. Amen. This ascription of praise may refer either to God the Father, or to Jesus Christ, it is true in reference to both. (See Rom. ix. 5.) From this eleventh verse we learn that all Christians should seek to glorify God in every thing through Jesus Christ, because it is through Him that we have every blessing--especially the blessing of redemption; and therefore a regard to the glory of God, especially as it is manifested in the redemption of the world by Christ Jesus, ought to be the master-principle of all their actions, ministrations, and services. As our Saviour Himself has commanded: --" Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven." (Matt. v. 16.) And as St. Paul has said: --" Whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him." Col. iii. 17. LECTURE XXIX.
