Not illustrated. 1848 Excerpt: ... in the indentures, and is to be taken as the true age, without further proof thereof; and when any public officers are authorized to execute any indentures, or their consent is required to the validity of the same, it is their duty to inform themselves fully of the infant's age.(d) The counterpart of any indentures executed by the county superintendents of the poor, must be by them deposited in the office of the clerk of the county; and the counterpart of any such indentures executed by the directors of the poor, must be by them deposited in such clerk's office; and provision must be made in every such indenture for teaching the rr.inor to read, write and cipher, and for such other instruction, benefit and allowance, as such superintendents or directors may think reasonable, (c) All considerations of money, or other things paid or allowed by the master, upon any such indenture of apprenticeship or service, must be paid or secured to the sole use of the minor bound thereby. But this provision is not meant to prevent or affect the right of a father, by the common law, to assign or contract for the services of his children for the term of their minority, or of any part thereof.
