South African Class 16 4-6-2 (Paperback)

High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! In 1914 the South African Railways (SAR), later renamed Spoornet and then Transnet Freight Rail (TFR), placed twelve Class 16 4-6-2 Pacific locomotives in passenger train service. The South African Class 16 4-6-2 locomotive was designed by D.A. Hendrie, chief mechanical engineer of the SAR at the time, and built by the North British Locomotive Company in Glasgow, Scotland. The design of the Class 16 closely followed that of the Class 15 4-8-2 that was introduced at the same time from the same builder, and many parts were made interchangeable.
