The United Nations International School of Hanoi is an international school in Hanoi, Vietnam. It is a private, non-profit organization founded in 1988 with the support of the United Nations Development Programme in Vietnam (UNDP) with the aim of providing an education to the children of UN staff and others. It now caters to the children of diplomats, aid workers, businessman, and other expatriates living and working in Hanoi. Classes range from pre-school to high school, and the IB Diploma available to students in grade 11 and 12.As of October 2007, there were 840 students from 52 countries.The demographic has changed significantly in the past 5 years in that there used to be only a handful of Vietnamese children in the school. Since the late 80s, the school has seen significant growth, beginning with less than 10 students. Up until 1999 there was no 12th grade. UNIS now offers the full International Baccalaureate program, from the primary level to the Diploma Programme in high school-the first school to do so in Asia.
