It.--njw U O5. nrwD is pointed as an absolute; D'D' npaif, accordingly, must be taken as an acc. of time, (6 correctly M iip.ipas. Haupt points as a cstr. & tf has probably arisen out of of shell-marble which may have been obtained from the neighbourhood of Astrakhan. H has varia, and 3 quod mira varietate, which seem to presuppose 'jpi, 'and multitudes, ' instead of fH in. f t omits.--mnDi apparently the same as As. sihru, a precious stone of an unknown sort (Delitzsch, HWB. 495). The name is perhaps connected with tv) 'to be dark.' Instead of this 3 reads pictura decorebai, and C pictura, which seems to indicate that they read P'3D, which they took as the Aram. equivalent of rloto 'imagery, ' 'pictures.' In Is. 2" 9 renders this word quod visu pulchrum est. (6 has Ko.1 arpdpvai Siapaveis irou(tas $irivBirpivai, 'and transparent coverings gayly decorated.' has?o l0-2? V" 'and coverings of linen and of silk.' Both of these versions presuppose niD3 'covering' instead of mnD in % and n'3D in SC The rest of the phrase in both cases is free amplification designed to explain what is meant by 'covering.' 8J1, read ntn-mn pnS pepD jn'iD pjiBNi 'and coloured ropes enclosed them on this side and on that.' This presupposes JB mnoi. The word is regarded as derived from mD 'go about, surround, ' and is here freely interpreted as an enclosure of ropes that surrounded the feasters.
