I cannot recommend this book highly enough. It helped me make sense of a lot of the crazy mind games of the past. For many years I honestly thought I was insane. The author explains that the abuser is unlikely to change - not because he can't but because he doesn't want to. There are not enough benefits to make it worth his while to change. Knowing this helps me move on: my father and brother could be better men but they consistently choose not to be.
