This office renders an extensive service to personal and written inquiries from all parts of Ohio and other states, involving considerable correspondence. REPORT OF THE OHIO COMMISSION FOR THE BLIND July 1, 1920, to July 1, 1921. The activities of the Commission for the Blind have been conducted, during the period covered in this report, along the lines pursued by the commission since its appointment. We have endeavored to reach and be of service to those who are blind and also to those who may be saved from blindness. The work of the Commission is divided into three departments: I. Conservation of Vision Department. II. To furnish instruction and employment for the adult blind in workshops for the blind; in industrial plants and factories, working side by side with the man with sight and in their own homes. III. To ameliorate the condition of the aged and infirm blind. The members of the commission, who serve without salary, meet on the second Thursday of every month at the headquarters in Columbus, when a detailed report, covering all phases of the work, is presented, and when action on all applications for training and assistance along various lines, and all other matters coming under the jurisdiction of the board, are considered. In addition to this service rendered by members of the commission, volunteer service and contributions have been received as follows: Ninety-eight opthalmologists have examined, operated and refracted cases of impaired vision, without charge, where the patients were unable to pay for the same. ...
