The Carib Club, Bradfield's most popular night-spot amongst the black community, is in the heart of a Muslim district and the local mosque is keen to get it closed down. When a taxi knocks down Jeremy Adams after a night clubbing, the pressure on the Carib starts building and DCI Michael Thackeray is put on the case. Meanwhile Thackeray's girlfriend, reporter Laura Ackroyd, is conducting her own investigation into Bradfield's drugs problem after a young boy falls from a tower block and dies. The police think it was a heroin overdose, but the boy's friends swear he was clean.
