Software Engineering Environments (Hardcover)

Toolmaking in software engineering is still in its infancy when compared to the development of toolmaking in other engineering disciplines: such sophisticated tools as exist are not yet widely in use, nor do they have the benefit of integration. This book is a review of research and development in software engineering environments, known as Integrated Project Support Environments (IPSE), showing what work has been achieved, and what work is still necessary to achieve the level of reproductability of other engineering disciplines. Amongst the important chapters are status reports from large Alvey-funded projects; an overview of experimental software development tools under investigation at the Kestrel Institute in California; and a description of research into various aspects, including configuration management within an IPSE.
