"Absalom, Absalom" by Faulkner is an allegory. Like many other novels written by Faulkner, this novel allegorizes the Southern history. The title "Absalom, Absalom" itself is an allusion to a son who is wayward and who is fighting the empire his father built. Through the story and history of Thomas Sutpen, the author masterly presents the story of rise and fall of Southern plantation culture. The novel can also be assessed as the work of the contemporary or alternate history.
