Social Problems - An Introduction to Critical Constructionism (Paperback)

This is a brief text intended primarily for Social Problems courses. Unlike other social problems texts, this one contains only six chapters, all guided by the theory of "critical constructionism", a subset of social constructionism that focuses on how elite interests benefit by currently popular constructions of social problems. Each chapter examines the critical role played by the media in problem construction and each provides cross-cultural examples of altrernative constructions. Given its readability, the text could also be used in introductory courses; and, given its consistent application to theory, it might be used in theory courses.
