Released from circuit duties, Mr. Allin adopted vigorous measures to re-establish his health. In company with his second daughter, Elizabeth, who was in a precarious state of health, he visited the Isle of Man as offering a complete change of air and scene. In Douglas he found pleasant society in the friendship of Mr., afterward Dr., Carpenter and the Rev. Mr. Howard, resident clergymen, and the Rev. E. Parsons, and daughter, of Leeds. Several friends also from Manchester, Liverpool, and Sheffield, spent a few days with him. In the pure air, bracing breezes, and cheerful society of this beautiful island, Mr. Allin's strength increased, unfavourable symptoms subsided, and his spirits recovered much Visits The Isle Of Man. 105 of their natural sprightliness. The following letters written to Mrs. Allin indicate the strength of his home affections and the gradual improvement of his health. "Douglas, Isle of Man, June 27, 1833. "my Dearest Ann, "Whilst here far from home and anxious respecting those I have left there, I experience no little pleasure in thinking of, and praying for, and writing to the dearest object of my earthly love. Unworthy should I deem myself of the affection of one of the most affectionate of wives were it otherwise. I feel indeed that I have abundant cause for gratitude.
