Description of A; _;)aratus.--The generating sets are designated as MP--6--5o--3I0, and are rated at 50 kilowatt, 80 volts, 625 amperes, 310 r. p. m. Object of T est.--The object of the tests made was first to demonstrate that each individual set would run satisfactorily for a continuous period of 48 hours, and, second, to determine the total steam consumption of the electric plant when running under various conditions of load and combinations of machines. /lletkoa' of Pr0eea'ure.--Three separate runs were made, each of 48 hours duration, the loads and sets used being as follows: --1. Two sets at full load. 2. Two sets at three-quarters load. 3. Three sets at half load. The load consisted of the ship's lights and ventilating motors and an adjustable water rheostat located on the upper deck. This water rheostat was manipulated by means of ropes running down the dynamo room trunk and terminating near the main generator switchboard.
