SS: S3.--" His lord said unto him, Well done, good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord." The fact that, in this world, we are on probation for another, that our eternal destiny of joy or of woe, of glory or of shame, is to depend upon the manner of our life here, is one of the most impressive which can address the human mind. The fact that no choice on the subject is left us; that the conditions of our being are such that probation, with its immeasurable results of happiness on the one hand or of misery on the other, is a necessity; that neglect to meet the issues which are upon us is as fatal as any positive transgression; that delay of retribution affords not even a shadow of hope for final impunity;--the fact that, unless righteous habits are formed as a shield against temptation, evil ones will surely fasten themselves upon us and ensure our ruin; that opportunities once disregarded never come back from the past to offer their advantages to us a second time;--these facts are full of startling solemnity to every thoughtful mind., It must be the realization of these things which occasions such a universal outburst of joy in heaven over every sinner that turns from the error of his ways to the life of faith.
