Letters from the Chinese Revolution - Rayna Prohme's Letters (Paperback)

The Wuhan interlude of 1927 was one of the earliest major crises of the Chinese revolution which had begun in 1911 with Dr Sun Yat-sen's establishment of the Kuomintang. Rayna Prohme was a young American woman who became intimately involved in that crisis, and the letters that she wrote during the period make up the body of this volume. Previously unpublished, these letters form a telling historical document, since Prohme came into close contact with the three principal players in the drama: Mikhail Borodin, Madame Sun Yat-sen and Eugene Chen. The latter two were among her chief mourners at her funeral in Moscow after her tragically early death at the age of 33. This volume of letters should give students and researchers of the period an insight into the intrigue, machinations and suffering of those involved, as well as being of interest to the general reader as a tale of individual fortitude amid exotic circumstances.
