Set in a Mexican village and peppered with Spanish phrases, this picture book draws on traditional stories to give a funny lesson about the hazards of being too competitive. In their village, Hercules is known for his strength and Socrates for his intelligence. Each of them believes that he is the most important man in the village and they're always competing with each other to prove it. After an ingenious test, devised by a little boy, the villagers decide that they need both Hercules and Socrates equally - but they don't need their endless bickering! Readers will be able to see for themselves how intelligence and strength each have their own value and can achieve greater things together than they could on their own. This is an ideal pairing of author and artist. In fact, the two have long wanted to work together.
