F.ach 200 cc. bath conthtned 20 gm. lead acetate, 8 gm. ammonium perchlorate, 5 to IO cc. acetic acid and an addition agent as described below. 40. The insoluble gum or residue from extraction of 2.5 gm. of Barbadoes aloes in warm water. B. One gram of the insoluble residue obtained in the commercial extraction of Curacao aloes in the manufacture of aloiu. 45. One gram Socotrine aloes was added to a bath which was warmed for several hours before electrolysis. 46. Like 45, except that Rarbadoes aloes was used. 51. Two and five-tenths grams of Barbadoes aloes was extracted in a Soxlcc extractor with alcohol. The addition of water to this extract and ev1oration to remove the alcohol preA1 itated a gum which was used in this experiment. 47. One gram of purified aloin, the active principle in aloes. 48. One gram of Barbadoes aloes was extracted with water in a Soxlet extractor. 50. One gram of Barbadoes aloes was extracted in a Soxlet eflractor with alcohol. This extract was used after the alcohol had been removed. 24. Licorice root or the dried extract boiled with 50 percent of glacial acetic acid gave addition substances which produced coarsely crystalline deposits. Pyroga-Il0l.--25. One percent of pyrogallol in a bath containing 5 percent aceticiacid gave a cathode which was smooth in places but covered with light, feathery crystals.in other places. There was a heavy precipitate in the bottom of the beaker, due to a reaction between the lead acetate and the pyrogallol. The deposit finally became spongy.
