The European volume 5 of the series Constitutions of the World covers Poland. Besides the May 3rd Constitution of 1791, Europes first modern constitution, it contains constitutional texts and drafts from the Napoleonic epoch and the time during which Poland did not exist as a sovereign state. The previously almost unknown documents include those of Galicia (Magna Charta / Charta Leopoldina of 1790) and the Lemberg Petitions of 1848. The 21 documents are edited in the original languages (Polish, German, French et al.) with annotations and an index.
