A Brother clergyman who is a member of the same conference to which I belong was called upon to perform a marriage ceremony. At the appointed time he put In his appearance at the home of the bride, where the marriage was to be solemnized. The license not being produced, the clergyman stated that it would be necessary for him to see it before be could proceed with the ceremony, and was surprised to receive this reply from the prospective groom: "I have no license, but am going to the city to-morrow and will get it then. It is eighteen miles to the city, and as I intended to go to-morrow to buy some furniture, I thought I might just as well kill two birds with one stone/ The preacher informed him that he could not perform the ceremony legally until the license had been granted, and so the guests were dismist, and the embarrast groom started for the county seat to get his license. One of the prominent men of the community was a Mr. C., who bad been converted a year before at the age of sixty. He was earnestly trying to become fluent in public prayer, so he studied the ritual prayers in the Methodist Discipline, which he would recite or read when called upon to pray. It mattered not whether the extracts were from the marriage, burial, or baptismal service. They were prayers.
