The good mother spoke words of comfort; but he heard her not. Soothing voices breathed in the evening air; but he arose. and stamped on the ground. and tore his hair, and screamed, " Sing me these songs no longerl l have no home. They are nll lies--lies that ye utter. llas not Mary gone away for ever, even as the vision of the primrose vanished into thin air? Find some other dreaming fool to listen to your song l " A grieved and moaning sound was heard. and died away il0Wly--rzlr)'ly, in the distance. The youth rushed down from the mountain. and roamed sullenly by the sea-shore. Although it was broad sunshine. the sky looked dark, and there was no light upon the earth. The pleasant birds were gone; crows cawed in the air; and the wuggnns creaked more harshly, since Mary died. All at once, a tall figure, with a brass trumpet in his hnnd, walked up and blew a loud blast in his ear. " In the name of the Furies, ...
