Understanding guerilla warfare and its underlying strategy is of vital importance to the United States prosecuting the Global War On Terrorism (GWOT). Understanding the asymmetric warfare strategy as conducted by the Yugoslavian guerilla resistance, led by Tito, during World War II will provide historical insight on conducting military campaigns against a weaker opponent. Analyzing Tito's Partisan military strategy during World War II will prove useful in understanding the United States' future enemies since in all probability US hegemony will dictate that our opponents utilize a guerilla strategy. This paper will address a brief historical overview of the events that occurred in the Yugoslavia area of operations during World War II (WW II) focusing primarily upon resistance to Axis occupation by Partisan guerilla forces led by Josip Broz, know commonly as "Tito."
