R. TANGAMAI. This girl was educated in the Megnanapuram boarding school, under the supervision of Mrs. Thomas. From this school we obtained for many years some of our very best students. The Rev. J. Thomas, who was for thirty years one of the most valued and able missionaries of the Church Missionary Society, was most careful in the selection of girls and boys for his boarding schools, as he rightly considered these institutions as the nurseries of our future agents, teachers, evangelists, native pastors and their wives. Mrs. Thomas and her daughter devoted themselves to the girls' school, and the results were most satisfactory and encouraging. The subject of this sketch was no exception to the general rule of excellence. She was a very plain, unattractive girl, but her sterling good qualities soon made one forget her appearance. She had a quick intelligence, was thoroughly trustworthy, and had a remarkably even, sweet temper. She very soon showed signs of special talent as a teacher.
