When he peeled back the fragile pages of the scroll to inspect the writing, he saw that it was in fact an unsigned and never before seen ancient parable of Christ, which appeared to have been written by one of the original twelve disciples of Jesus. Before he released it to the world, he had to read it himself and translate a copy to keep. He eventually sold the original scroll to a man claiming to be with the Catholic Church. The antiquities dealer waited years for the original to surface, but it never did nor did he ever again see the man that bought the scroll from him.
