Autopsy - Life In The Trenches With A Forensic Pathologist In Africa (Paperback)

As a medical detective of the modern world, forensic pathologist Ryan Blumenthal’s chief goal is to bring perpetrators to justice. He has performed thousands of autopsies, which have helped bring numerous criminals to book. In Autopsy he covers the hard lessons learnt as a rookie pathologist, as well as some of the most unusual cases he’s encountered.

During his career, for example, he has dealt with high-profile deaths, mass disasters, death by lightning and people killed by African wildlife. Blumenthal takes the reader behind the scenes at the mortuary, describing a typical autopsy and the instruments of the trade. He also shares a few trade secrets, like how to establish when a suicide is more likely to be a homicide.

Even though they cannot speak, the dead have a lot to say – and Blumenthal is there to listen.

Very informative giving insight into what happens behind the scenes in an autopsy. Ryan has expressed in detail the grim aspects, risks and findings associated with the bodies. The insights of the practical, emotional and intellectual life of a forensic pathologist. An amazing read!!

Beautifully written. Offers eye opening insights and life lessons.

If you're always curious as to what other people get up to in their daily work lives, this is A MUST READ FOR YOU. It's gripping right from the get go. It's a beautiful glimpse into the private world of the very unknown to most people. Very informative and enough detail to make me grateful for the work that I do, and even more appreciative of the things that other people do to make the world a better place. What I loved most though is that it isn't just a story, it's like you were on a personal tour with the Author. Can't wait for the follow up 

It was a very informative book, and easy to digest. The stories are structured so in a way that if feels from a story telling perspective around a campfire. Very fun to read about! Would recommend to anyone in the field of medicine and anyone with a remote interest in crime and investigations.

Mesmerizing and exceedingly well-executed

Autopsy was excellent. Very interesting and informative. Learnt a lot.

A must read! I was riveted and read this book in one sitting. Fascinating insight into a forensic pathologist's work.

Bone chilling and macabre stories from a forensic pathologist in South Africa. Sharing stories of what makes investigating unnatural deaths in Africa so unique. Excellent read, informative and interresting!

I found this book fascinating and surprisingly inspiring... We need more people like Ryan Blumenthal in our medicolegal system... Hopefully this book will inspire upcoming forensic pathologists...

The most boring, dull, text book like book I have tried to read in years. Not spark in sight. Battled through to half way and gave up.
