The very rapid sale of my little pamphlet on Astrology entitled "A Short Compendium of Astrology in English and Canarese" (2000 copies) published in 1882, and the subsequent great demand for more copies encouraged me to issue an improved and much enlarged edition. The exhaustive treatise promised by me to the. public will be published later on. When completed it will be a good reference book both for students and adepts in this branch of knowledge, and will also contain a large number of illustrations and examples with a fine colored Zodiacal map of the heavenly planets. My book and the series of astrological lectures I delivered in my tours, I am sure, have created a good deal of interest in the minds of the educated public in India, and I am greatly encouraged in this view by the kind suggestions of several able men who have written to me on the subject, desiring me to treat Astrology more scientifically and meet such of those objections against its belief as could be done with my limited knowledge and time at command. Astrology has been much neglected and hastily judged, and it is a great pity that it has not been properly and thoroughly investigated. My present attempt has been to produce a cheap and useful book, written in an easy and untechnical style and to introduce the beginner to the higher branches of the Astrological sciences without many of those difficulties, which generally beset works of this kind. Books treating ou scientific and technical subjects should be as simple as possible if they are to be really useful to the general public. Within the narrow compass of this small primer it will not be possible to attempt to reconcile...
