Shahnamah of Mohammed Juki (Hardcover)

The art of the illustrated Persian manuscript reached a high point under the descendants of Timur in the fifteenth century. One of the finest examples is a copy of the "Shahnamah of Firdausi" produced for the prince Muhammed Juki, probably in the early 1440s. The manuscript subsequently passed to the Mughal rulers in India, and is now in the collection of the Royal Asiatic Society. In this book, the illustrations are discussed both in relation to the text, and in the context of Timurid patronage; for the first time they are all reproduced together in colour with additional comparative material.
