Documentary tracing the origins of Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes, arguably the most famous literary detective in history. The programme explores the crimes, people and events that inspired Sir Arthur Conan Doyle to create the man who became the precursor of modern crime scene forensic investigators, and also looks at the many novels, films, plays and merchandise that the persona of Sherlock Holmes has accumulated over the years. Also included are three remastered films starring Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce: 'Dressed To Kill' (1946), 'The Woman In Green' (1945) and 'Terror By Night' (1946).
