Charters The revenue thus designated is a bonus of one quarter of one per cent. upon the amount of the capital stock which said company is authorized to have, payable in two equal installments, with a like amount upon any subsequent increase of the stock. No company incorporated under the laws of Pennsylvania, or accepting the same, (excepting turnpike, bridge, and cemetery companies, or building and loan associations, and corporations not for profit, ) can legally go into operation, or exercise any corporate powers or privileges, until the first installment of bonus is paid. Office License Fees.--No foreign corporation can legally do business in Pennsylvania unless it shall have first obtained from the Auditor General an annual license so to do, for which it shall pay annually one fourth of a mill on each dollar of capital stock which it is authorized to have. Licenses. Under the head of licenses, the following revenues are classed: Retailers' Licenses.--Under the head of retailers are included all mercantile licenses, except such as are subject by law to special rates, and which are hereafter specified. Retail dealers are classed according to their annual sales. The lowest class is $7, sales $1,000; the highest class is $1,000, sales $500,000. Brewers' And Distillers'.--The present rates for this class of licenses are: Sales of $1,000 and under, $15; the highest rate is $200, sales $100,000. Billiard Table And Bowling Alley Licenses.--Keepers of billiard saloons and bowling alleys, (nine or ten-pin saloons, ) are taxed for their licenses, for the first billiard table or bowling alley, $30; for each additional table or alley, $10.
