This volume represents the edited proceedings of the 3rd European Congress on Magnesium, held in Geneva in March 1990. These 50 edited contributions reflect an international and up-to-date survey of the role of this crucial element. There is an increasing concern for the magnesium issue regarding biology and medicine today, due to the consistent evidence of suboptimal bioavailability of magnesium salts to living organisms. The multidisciplinary approach to research in this field is expected to better delineate relevant claims from speculative thinking, and also to promote rational speculative thinking for further research. This book thus allows for a comprehensive, updated and methodologic appraisal of current experimental, epidemiological, nutritional, endocrine and therapeutical knowledge, as an introduction to the on-going research work from the 26 countries represented at this congress.
