Lady Bridgit Mead is a bored woman who dislikes her mother and is apathetic about everything. So when Lord Pontefract proposes to her one drunken evening, she hastily says yes. Right afterwards, young Theo Joyselle urges her to reconsider, arguing that she will be happier with him, a younger, more vibrant man. She assents to marry him instead and goes to visit his family.
