Armachain (Hardcover)

Outbreak of the Civil War in North Carolina entices Moses Armachain, a young Cherokee, to join the Confederate regiment of Col. William Thomas. Surviving perilous adventures and misfortunes, he rescues Aggie Lossiah, a childhood Cherokee friend, from the lustful Union Col. Kirk. The two Native Americans fall in love; and their lives become intertwined in the conflict between Thomas' Legion of Indians and Highlanders and invading Federal forces. They are constantly threatened by a villainous Creek named Dark Weasel, who leads a gang of bushwhackers and marauders--creating fear and havoc throughout the mountains of North Carolina and Tennessee. A freed slave named Joseph adds a tri-racial element to the tale; a rescued wolf pup, an animal-relationship feature. Told from the viewpoint of the Eastern Cherokees themselves, this story of their little-known role in the Confederate struggle chronicles the exploits of Armachain and the Confederate Indians throughout four years of bloodshed. Though the despair of war's horrors and the loss of loved ones at times overwhelms Armachain and Aggie, their love endures.
