Hillbilly in China (Paperback)

This is an account of the authoras academic research and experiences in China, beginning a month after the government repression in Tiananmen Square in 1989 until he retired in 2003. It includes his observations on government control of speech and religion and the culture and activities of citizens in the northern half of China. During the period he spent in China, a serious seed-borne disease became a problem for seedsmen and growers. This disease curtailed his involvement in variety development. Finally, near the close of his career, he had the opportunity to assist a number of outstanding Chinese students, and this became the inspiration derived from his missions to China.
