Not illustrated. 1829 Excerpt: ...increase of field officers and captains to the Native Infantry, observing, at the same time, that no delay need accrue from the alteration, since the system in all its other parts would be admitted by us, and we trusted that with the proposed amendment we could venture to promise him a favourable reception of it from our brother officers abroad. He promised to give the papers we had presented, and the suggestions he had received, his serious consideration, and that he should again communicate with us on the subject of them very shortly. Berners Street, Friday, September 26, 1795.--Read the following letter from the Honourable Court of Directors. ' Sir, --The Court of Directors of the East India Company have received a letter signed by you and several other of fleers, requesting a copy of the regulations which have been framed for the arrangement of the Indian army, and I havo ' received the Court's commands to acquaint you they cannot comply therewith.--I am, Sir, Your most obedient, Humble "Servant, W. Ramsay, Sec.--East India House, September 24, 1795." The conduct of the honourable Court towards this Committee having been uniformly such as renders it impracticable to open any communication with them, and such as the Committee cannot but consider unmerited by their officers abroad, who, as well in their representations, as in the conduct observed by their representatives towards the Honourable Court, have uniformly testified an anxiety to treat them with the respect due to their immediate superiors. Agreed, that as we shortly expect the honour of a conference with the Right Honourable the President of the Board of Controul, we do on that occasion lay the above letter before him, aud solicit a copy of the arrangement in conformity to his promise. ...
