It is very exceptional to see a child exceed expectation as much as 30 points. In such cases there is usually something in their history to aocount for such unusual educational acquirement. With only six in the olass the in struction has been individualized to a greater extent than usual. This, together with having an excellent teacher, no doubt aocounts for some degree of aoceleration. However, it seems more probable that a large part of the aoceleration is made possible by the fact that the child had normal hearing up to the age of six. This has given the child the enorm ous advantage of having acquired the use of the English language-an accomplishment which takes the oongenital deaf all the years of their school life to aoquire. Recall Dr. Pininer's findings on the Printed Directions test le found that the average deaf child's comprehension of the language involved was about equal to that of ...
