It is also a good plan to have a spray platform some distance above the ground for mixing the liquids, which can then be poured directly down into the tank. A cypress tank, of good capacity, in which the liquid can be mixed while the sprayers are in operation, will save much valuable time and lessen the cost of the labor. Should Infested Trees be Taken Out or Severely Pruned?--Growers are sometimes too hasty in cutting down badly damaged trees. The San Jose scale is so easily controlled that injured trees, if not too old, will quickly revive, if they are freed of their pests and stimulated with fertilizers and good cultivation. For trees that need to be quickly invigorated, Professor "Walker recommends nitrate of soda, sown broadcast four feet or more from the trunk. Large apple trees, 15 to 20 years old, should receive pound to 3 pounds, while bearing peach trees require 14 pound to 2 pounds.
