Not illustrated. 1922 Excerpt: ...fiscal year was 14,827; of these 362 were from persons living in other states and looking toward California as a future home; 519 persons visited the office seeking agricultural information and 524 telephone inquiries were attended to. In counties as large as those found in California it is not surprising that there are farmers and others, who have never heard of the Agricultural Extension Service, or do not know that it is available to them through the county farm advisor. In many of the answers to letters "from those seeking information and help, attention is called to the Extension Service organization in their county and the name and office address of the farm advisor given. This results in a closer contact between the Agricultural Extension Service and the farmer in that the farm advisor can visit the man on his farm and help him with his problems--a service which in most cases is far more satisfactory than advice by correspondence. Very few examinations of land for the purpose of advising in regard to its agricultural possibilities have been made during the past year. This work, at one time an important part of the Public Service activities, has been largely taken over by the county farm advisors, with the few exceptions of those requests which come from those living in unorganized counties.
