After the opening of the alzkammergot Ry., however, there was a falling off in traffic, and the rolling stock was reduced to 26 passenger coaches and 272 wagons. The locomotives originally supplied by Giinther were, from 1880 onwards, replaced by tender engines built by Krauss, and at the date of conversion there were eight such locomotives in use. To obviate the inconvenience of the narrow gauge, in 1893 13 pairs of " Rollbocke " (literally " rolling trestles ") were introduced into service for the purpose of conveying normal gauge goods a leading pony truck, built by Messrs. Krauss 5: Co., at Linz, in 1895 (makers' No. 3275). On the first coach of the train were three white boards, one bearing the date "26 August, 1903," and the others the inscriptions, " Letzter Schmalspurzug" (last narrow gauge train) and "Lambach--Gmunden Seebhf" (Lambach-Gmunden Lake Station). The festival thus celebrated was justified by the fact that it signified the termination of a narrow gauge system extending over 67 years, and the "funeral" of the last remnant of 3-ft. 6-in. track on the Budweis-Gmunden Ry. Trafiic on the normal gauge began on August 30th. L.&N W.R. EXHIBITS AT ST. LOUIS. "4'@D3" AS befits its standing in the railway world, the L. 8: N.W.R. has taken pains to make a thoroughly representative show at the St. Louis Exhibition.
