Edward Jerningham, a minor poet of the ISth century, is not only interesting for himself, but for the place he held among his contemporaries. Horace Walpole, Edmund Burke. Norton Nichols, the Countess of Jersey, and the sculptiess Mrs, Dotner, all these knew and wrote to Jerningham. Besides this correspondence, the book contains letters from the Rev. W. J. Temple, the spiritual advisor of Boswell. The letters are annotated with a great number of 18th century personalia.
