Obviously the best way of rendering the shells harmless would be to crush them either in a pan or by means of a series of rollers, and even in a small works it would probably pay better to adopt such a measure than any other. DIVIDED PALLET. / enclose a rather rough sketch of a divided pallet which when lifted from the cutting table is closed, and the depositing on car arms and consequent weight of bricks acting on underwork opens the divisions oj the brick also, leaving them spaced apart ready for going straight to dryer Jrom cutting table by lifting pallet from cutting-off table on to arms of car, the pallet also forming the shelf. I should very much esteem your opinion as to its probable use or otherwise with tunnel dryers for wire-cuts. I may say that I have already sectored proi'isional protection for thit. You will notice that each division is connected by means of a chain underneath which'allows them to moiie the required distance only. I have tried this at Cewe, and find that it separates the bricks-splendidly, with a clay which has a great tendency to stick.. This is hardly a question to propose to the editor of a journal, as it is not our province to give expert advice about inventions. Without seeing the pallet in full work it is not possible to give a reliable opinion, but one or two points which strike us may be mentioned without demur. 1.' The cost of four or five thousand of such pallets would '"' be very great. ' 2. They would be heavy. 3. The levers would in all probability be very soon damaged.' 4...
