Editor Medical World: --Will you kindly publish the following report of a case, that I may get some light as to diagnosis from the many subscribers to The World? Father dead at 45; mother also dead. Was sent to New York for operation, but was returned as not requiring operation, and died two weeks later. Cause of death unknown. Was always strong and robust; 5 feet 8 inches, and weighed 158 pounds. He was 25 years old. Consulted me on the 5th inst., on account of weakness in legs; not painful. He had intense thirst and said his head felt heavy and full. Tongue was raw and furrowed and had no coating. Appetite was good. Bowels constipated. Urin was normal as far as patient knew, except that he voided larger quantities than natural. His temperature was 99.3 F., and pulse 82. Respirations were normal. No abnormality of heart or lungs. No distention or tenderness of abdomen. The skin was sallow, but had normal moisture. His nose bled on way to my office from no apparent cause (he had been shoveling wheat before leaving his home to consult rae). He had been having seminal emissions at night during the preceding month. He suffered from slightly stuffing hemorrhoids. Stupor developt five days after I saw him, and death occurred two days later. He vomited once, which I ascribed to taking a Seidlitz powder after breakfast, instead of before, as ordered. Gave 5 grains of calomel...
