Not illustrated. 1903 Excerpt: ... take six ounces of warm water of about 900; mix one ounce of No. 1 and one ounce of No. 2, and add the six ounces of warm water; put two or three prints in this mixture, all face down, turning them face up, starting with the bottom one, and keep on until you find that they have attained a beautiful intense black. If you wish to make brilliant red prints, you can only use weak prints, as the toning solution tends to intensify them. You make these solutions as follows, labelling them 1, 2 and 3: 1. One ounce of ferricyanide of potassium in 16 ounces of water. 2. One ounce of nitrate of uranium in 16 ounces of water. 3. One ounce of bromide of ammonium in 16 ounces of water. You then take one ounce of each of these solutions, together with a quarter of an ounce of diluted nitric acid--add to this about ten ounces of warm water--and place your print in this. In a short time it is changed in shade from a bright straw color to a deep burnt sienna. I have a large number of formula; for treating prints, but I have long ago set them aside, labelling them "photographic gymnastics." i903 NOVELTY AND FASHION.?13 NOVELTY AND FASHION. BY T. PERKINS.
