Excerpt: The Marshall Chess Club in New York City is one of the oldest and strongest chess clubs in the United States. It is a non-profit organization. It was a long-time rival of the Manhattan Chess Club, which was disbanded in 2002. The club was formed in 1915 by a group of players led by Frank Marshall. Some of the members of the club have been Reuben Fine, Edmar Mednis, James Sherwin, Larry Evans, Andy Soltis, Anthony Santasiere, Fred Reinfeld, Arthur Dake, Albert Simonson, Herbert Seidman, Stanley Kubrick, Hikaru Nakamura, Howard Stern, and Fabiano Caruana. The club had several temporary meeting places until it permanently moved to 23 West 10th Street in New York in 1931. The club occupies two floors of a townhouse that the club owns. Marshall was the leader of the club until his death in 1944, when his wife Caroline took over. Frank Brady was elected president in 2007.
