Excerpt: Supraphon Music Publishing is a Czech record label, it is oriented mainly on publishing classical music. The Supraphon name, (originally used for an electric record player, a technical marvel of its day), was first registered as a trademark in 1932. In the post-war years it was the label of domestic albums produced for export, playing a significant role in helping to spread the fame of Czech classical music recordings during the 1930s and 40's. Wiener Fltenuhr 1971 The artistic direction of the firm gave rise to a broad catalog of titles which systematically mapped out the works of Bedich Smetana, Antonn Dvok, and Leo Janek, Bohuslav Martin, Jan Dismas Zelenka as well as other interprets of both the Czech and the international music worlds. Significant domestic and foreign soloists, chamber ensembles, orchestras and conductors all contributed to its collection of recordings. Supraphon archives contain the recordings of Czech Philharmonic under the baton of Vclav Talich, Karel Anerl, Karel ejna, Vclav Neumann and others, as well as recordings of foreign artists, e.g. Sviatoslav Richter, Emil Gilels, Mstislav Rostropovich, Ida Haendel, Henryk Szeryng, Andr Gertler. The recordings are reissued in editions Archive, Anerl Gold Edition, Talich Special Edition. The label is focused also on cooperation with the present classical music interprets, recordings of Pavel Haas Quartet was awarded BBC Music Magazine's "Chamber Choice".
