Excerpt: Cruelty and the Beast is the third studio album by English extreme metal band Cradle of Filth. It is a concept album based on the legend of the Hungarian "blood countess" Elizabeth Bathory. The album features guest narration on certain passages by Ingrid Pitt in character as Bathory; a role she first played in the Hammer film Countess Dracula in 1971. Orchestral and symphonic keyboard elements are given even more emphasis than previously, giving the music a darker and more dramatic feel. The album was well received on its release. Original drummer Nicholas Barker would quit the band the following year to join Dimmu Borgir, over disagreements about the mixing of the drums on the record. This would be the last Cradle of Filth album to employ a heavily symphonic black metal sound; the following albums, starting with Midian, would mark Cradle of Filth's transition to a more extreme metal sound. The track "Cruelty Brought thee Orchids" has remained a staple of the band's live setlist since the album's release. The Album ranked tenth in a Kerrang top ten "Essential Black Metal" albums list in 2000. All music written and composed by Cradle of Filth, all lyrics by Dani Filth. 2-disc edition (Disc 2) The tracklisting on the Celtic Cross edition of the album does not feature "Potrait of the Dead Countess." Additionally, the track "Lustmord and Wargasm" is excluded in favour of the reworked version of the song - "Lustmord And Wargasm (The Relicking of Cadaverous Wounds)" ...http: //booksllc.net/?id=577302
