Stabaek have played in the Norwegian Premier League since 1995 except for one season, having been relegated after finishing second last in the 2004 season. They were again promoted to the Premier League in 2005 and finished 5th in the Premier League in the 2006 season. In 2008 they won their first league title, after finishing second in 2007. Stabaek also won the Norwegian Cup in 1998, beating Rosenborg 3-1 in the final. In 2009 a new women's football team was started within Stabaek IF and was named Stabaek FK. This new team took over most of the players from the bankrupt former Toppserien club Asker Fotball and has competed in the Toppserien from 2009. Stabaek Fotball is the first Norwegian football club with both their men's and woman's team in the premier divisions. Stabaek played home games at Nadderud stadion until 2008. Now they currently play their home games at Telenor Arena. Telenor Arena has a capasity of 15 000 people. On February 4th 2010 Einar Schultz was elected new chairman of Stabaek, replacing Ingebrigt Steen Jensen. Schultz has held various positions in the Stabaek system over the last five years.
