Excerpt: Heiner Brand (born July 26, 1952 in Gummersbach) is a former West German handball player who competed in the 1976 Summer Olympics, and has been the German national team's coach since 1997. He is the only person who has won the world handball championship both as a player (in 1978) and a coach (in 2007). In 1976 Brand was part of the West German team which finished fourth in the Olympic tournament. He played all six matches and scored twelve goals. He appears on the cover of the Handball Manager 2008 game. Brand gained fame outside of the handball world in 2009, when after the final whistle of World Championship match between Germany and Norway, he was captured by television cameras rushing towards the referees, turning red and shaking his fist. He calmed down after a few seconds and no assault happened, but the event became a well known viral video on the internet.
