Reza took up tennis after a childhood stint as her older brother's ball girl. She has upset many top players on the WTA such as Justine Henin, Jelena Jankovi, Dinara Safina, Maria Sharapova, and Venus Williams. Her career high rank was #16, achieved on May 17, 2010. She is currently the French #2 behind Marion Bartoli. Reza is characterized by a high risk style of play. She proficiently strikes the ball on both her forehand and backhand sides. Opponents have often cited her considerable power and ability to hit winners with relative ease. Her biggest weakness is her serve, which tends to break down at inopportune moments. She has made large strides in improving her serve, though. She competed for Iran at the Women's Islamic Games winning Gold in 2001 and 2005. For the second year in a row, Reza lost in the qualifying rounds of the Australian Open. However, her French Open run was more successful. She struggled through to the third round of the tournament, defeating Ai Sugiyama of Japan along the way. She fell to Nicole Vaidiov, in a hard fought three-setter. Her Wimbledon dreams were also put on hold as she fell in the first round of qualifying. At the 2006 U.S. Open, she reached the fourth round, her career best Grand Slam singles result.
