Excerpt: National Institute of Technology, Warangal (NITW), is a premier undergraduate and post graduate engineering institute located in Warangal, India. Formerly known as the Regional Engineering College, Warangal (RECW), it is the first among the 17 Regional Engineering Colleges established in India and was founded in 1959 by the then Prime Minister Jawahar Lal Nehru. Today it is an Institute of National Importance awarding bachelors, masters and doctoral degrees in engineering, technology, basic sciences and management. NIT Warangal previously known as REC Warangal is located in the northern Telangana town of Warangal in the state of Andhra pradesh. The 256 acre residential campus is located on both sides of the National Highway No. 202 (Hyderabad - Warangal - Khammam), in the state of Andhra Pradesh. The Institute is in close proximity of Kazipet (2 km) a major railway junction and also Warangal railway station. The nearest airport is in Hyderabad 140 km. The state road transport APSRTC buses ply at regular intervals, of 510 minutes, between Hanamkonda and various Hyderabad bus stands.
