Walker Company, Limited, for the construction of a new wharf at Rio de Janeiro. According to the plans the wharf is to be divided into three sections. The first section will be 1,768 meters long, the second 1,482 meters, and the third 1,482 meters. MISCELLANEOUS NOTES. A legislative decree has been promulgated in Sao Paulo, authorizing the State Government to open a supplementary credit of 100,000 milreis with the Secretary of Agriculture for sanitary works in the city of Santos. The State of Sao Paulo has recently promulgated a decree authorizing the Government to enter into a contract for the introduction of 50,000 immigrants. Direct steamship service between Germany and the city of Manaos was inaugurated on August 19,1900, by the arrival from Hamburg of the steamship Canada. Exports of rubber from Manaos during the month of July amounted to 312,468 kilograms, of which 215,171 were destined for Europe and 97,297 for the United States. CHILE. COMMERCIAL STATISTICS OF 1899. The "Estadistica Comerciar' (Commercial Statistics) corresponding to the year 1899 has just been issued by the Chilean Government. It contains a vast amount of valuable and important data concerning the economic situation of the country, and extensive and detailed information regarding the movement and volume of trade of the Republic during the past year. One of the most interesting tables found in this statistical publication is that showing the importations and exportations of 1899 as compared with those of 1898.
